Torrential rains that hit the town on April 4, 2021, reportedly caused havoc to both private and government properties.
The entire Bethel Assembly building of the Church of Pentecost collapsed while the SHS in the town had the roofing on its administration and library blocks as well as part of the girls’ dormitory block ripped off by the storm.
Speaking to Citi News, the MP for the area said: “The rainfall came as a form of surprise to us. The Akim Oda township is used to rainfall around the afternoon but because of the storm and the wind that accompanied, a lot of houses were destroyed.”
“We are going to ensure that those who were affected receive relief items to alleviate their stranded nature. Some have had to move from their homes to other people’s home,” Akwasi Acquah said.
During the downpour, part of the township was plunged into darkness after trees fell on electricity lines.
Also, the roofing on the Anglican Basic school building at Old Town was also ripped off.
The AEA Preparatory school dormitory was partly ripped off. Part of the roofing on the Kontihene’s palace as well as the durbar ground at Oda Old Town were also removed.
At Oda New Town, part of the roofing on the Emmanuel Presby church was removed and a new block for the Presby Basic school totally collapsed.
The mast for Ofie FM, a local radio station in Oda also fell down and got damaged on the main street in front of the main MTN office.
Part of the Methodist Conference hall on the Oda Telecom road also caved in and several trees along the telecom stretch fell on the street.
