Students of Mem-Chemfre Community Day Senior High/Technical School in the Kwahu Afram Plains North cries over lack of teachers.
The school, which is one of the E-Blocks built by the Mahama led Administration, has been left under utilized.
In an interview with the students, they made it known that, they find it difficult when it comes to their various elective subjects.
“It is not easy being a student here. The entire school has only 4 Teachers. When it is time for subjects such as General Knowledge in Art (G.K.A), Elective Mathematics, Biology, Building and Construction, Management in Living, Food and Nutrition among others, we have to do individual and personal studies because there are no teachers for these subjects” they said.
They again made it known that, accommodation is another problem since the school is a Day School.
“The school is situated in a community that serves as resettlement. We find it difficult to get places to lodge since most of us are not from the District. We would be grateful if a hostel facility could be provided to help us” they added.
The school is currently offering the following programs.
- General Arts
- Home Economics
- Technical Courses
The school has 14 SHS 2 students among which majority comes from communities such as Nkawkaw, Ho, Ningo-Prampram, Lapaz and Accra among others which are not within the Afram Plains North District.
The students also lamented on how difficult it is for them to reach their families over phones.
“The area has a poor network system. There is no network here hence we are not able to reach our families back home anytime the need arises. It is really difficult and hectic attending school here” they added.
They are however determined to do all they can to pass their examinations successfully.
“Despite all the above challenges, we are still determined to pass our examinations. We are putting in our best and we pray that, more teachers are sent over to assist us” they added.
The school has the well furnished science laboratories in the District but has been left to go waste since there is no Science teacher to guide the students to make use of it.
Libraries and ICT Centres which were part of the building have all been left unfurnished.
