K.A.P.N – MP Donates Boat To Save Students
The Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North Constituency, Hon. Betty Krosby Mensah has donated two boats to students of Abiu Kope in the the Afram Plains North District.
The donation was done after the community called on her to come to the aid of their wards.
In an interaction with the community on how effective the boat has been to them, they made it known that, it has intensively help them.
“Our children used to have issues whenever going to school. They sometimes had to stay away from school because of the flooding of the river. We put our plea before the MP and she has assisted us with two boats” they said.
Some of the school children also made it known that, the boat has actually boost their academic performance.
“We used to stay away from school not because we want to but because we had problems going to school. After the MP came to our aid with the boat, we have been regular and punctual in school. This has also improved our academic performance since we are always in school” they said.
The community however, lamented on how lack of electricity has been another major roadblock in their lives and hence call on the District Assembly to assist them with solar lighting system.
“Our children used to have challenges with studying in the evenings. The MP has assisted them with solar lanterns which is helping however, we believe if the District Assembly can assist us with solar lighting system, it will be far better” they told aframplainsstories.
Abiu Kope is one of the fishing communities in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District. Students of the community has to cross the River Volta on daily basis to and fro school.
The student also called on the Assembly to assist them with an outboard motor.
“Now that the rains are still coming, the river will be flooded soon. This will make our lives on the river more dangerous. We are pleading with the Assembly to come to our with by providing us with a 9.9 horse power outboard motor” they pleaded.
The Member of Parliament has also donated packs of roofing sheets to Mafikope and Adorkope. The donation was to aid them put up structures that will serve as classrooms for school children in the communities.
The MP has also asked the people of Abiu Kope to initiate a project of putting up a pavelion to serve as classroom for the lower primary. She urged them to draw her attention as soon as they initiate the project for her assistance.
